Community Rewards Programme
Honouring 40 years of service to our communities
Congratulations to two of our Community rewards beneficiaries
As part of our 40th Anniversary celebrations, we invited our Members to participate in our Community Rewards Programme, offering R40 000 each to five community based organisations which our Members believe are contributing to building stronger communities through making use of their own assets and resources.
Guardians of Hope Place of Safety
Founded in 2017 in East London, Guardians of Hope is a home for abandoned and neglected children. Over the years, they have opened their arms to 215 precious children, aged from newborn to 4 years old. Currently housing 30 children, the Guardians of Hope Place of Safety provides for the basic needs of the children, offering love and hope as well as counselling support, education, play therapy and palliative care where needed.
In the words of the Director, Elaine Brenkman, “As a community-funded organisation, we rely on our community to help us care for the little ones. Your funding makes a huge difference in the lives of our children and allows me to be the voice for the unvoiced.”
“As an adoptee myself, I have long admired Guardians of Hope and the selfless work they have done and continue to do. And having worked in the NGO space, I got the opportunity to briefly meet the founder, Elaine, and her passion is palpable.
When your call for applications came, I saw no more deserving organisation. They give these little ones a second chance at life because I, too, was given a second chance.
This award will go a long way in meeting the needs of their little ones such as food, diapers, and toiletries, and will contribute to the sustenance of their daily operations. It is a radiating light of hope affirming that these children are seen and loved, " says LegalWise Member, Eunice Esi Silwana who nominated Guardians of Hope.
Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled
For over 25 years, Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled has been at the forefront of empowering people with physical disabilities, many of whom come from underserved and impoverished areas within the Cape Town Metropole. Serving beneficiaries from diverse backgrounds, including economically disadvantaged areas such as Bridgetown, Silvertown, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Athlone, Mitchells Plain, they strive to provide individuals with pathways to independence and dignity.
“Being a qualified horticulturist, I have been working with the Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled on their garden projects, providing skills and training. Vegetables from the garden are sold to raise funds or used for meals.
The need for a borehole arose and so did the idea of nominating the organisation for the Community Rewards Programme. With this much needed funding, the organisation will be able to install a borehole and expand their garden,” stated Felix Martin Barends, LegalWise Member.
The other Beneficiaries will be featured in the next WiseUp.
