Bridging the gap between higher education and the world of work.

The results driven LegalWise #BeyondMentorship Programme aims to bridge the gap between higher education and the world of work by guiding the transition between these two worlds.

Through the Programme, the mentees are provided with career development tools and resources to increase their knowledge and further develop the soft skills required to reach their full potential and ultimately develop and create a pipeline for future talent.

The Programme was officially launched on 6 August 2021 by Siva Gengan, CEO of LegalWise South Africa, joined by Mamokgethi Phakeng, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, Rehana Khan Parker, the Director of Woza Women in Law and Nozuko Mzamo, Director of UKIYO.

The programme is more than   just a mentorship programme per se, in that it creates a pipeline and a closer relationship with the Universities and other Educational Institutions to attract the best and brightest talent, effectively functioning as an incubator for young talent to drive the business forward.

Ten mentees were selected to be part of the Programme after a rigorous recruitment and selection process and were onboarded on 27 October 2021. They came from diverse backgrounds with qualifications ranging from law and commerce to agriculture and telecommunication.

Following the successful completion of our first cohort, we are continuing with the #BeyondMentorship programme. Launching year two of the programme, our CEO, Siva Gengan, together with Tebello Motshwane, founder of Sister-in-Law and Lithalethemba Stwayi, our Impact Litigation Manager: Legal Services hosted some of the mentees; as well as the #BeyondMentorship programme mentor; Nozuko Mzamo in a red round table conversation on the importance of mentorship.

The conversation aimed to reflect on some of the learnings, areas of improvement and experiences of the mentees, ultimately, the candid conversation sought to gather first-hand stories from the assortment of the participants around the table on how mentorship can be a positive tool for anyone seeking to, identify a desired career, launch a career, improve their career life, and identify further career opportunities.
