Community Rewards Programme

Honouring 40 years of service to our communities

Congratulations to the remaining three of our five Community Rewards beneficiaries.

As part of our 40th Anniversary celebrations, we invited our Members to participate in our Community Rewards Programme, offering R40 000 each to five community based organisations that our Members believe are contributing to building stronger communities through making use of their own assets and resources.

Ubomi Obutsha Centre

“Ubomi Obutsha" meaning "New Life" in isiXhosa, was founded in 1998 and over the years, the project has grown in scope, reach and community participation. In 2015, the Ubomi Obutsha Centre was established as a standalone non-profit organisation.

The Centre is a community-based, non-profit organisation that combines volunteered time, donated resources, developmental activities and psychosocial support systems into a Family Focus programme that aims to build family cohesion, resilience and self-sustainability in poor, vulnerable and high-risk families. 50 'high-risk' families are currently included in the programme, and approximately 300 children per month participate in Life Skills and Education Support activities in the afternoons.

Golfing Sharks Social and Development Club

Founded in 2021, the Golfing Sharks Social and Development Club assist a number of organisations as part of its social responsibility commitment. Working in collaboration with organisations such as the Peace Agency, the Baby Home Durban North, Sahara Shelters for abused women and children, Phoenix Child Welfare, Chatsworth Hospice, Eden Children's Home, and disaster relief, they support vulnerable children and households with access to food and much-needed funding.

Inkulisa Holistic Resource Unit

Established in 2017, the Inkulisa Holistic Resource Unit focuses on supporting children and families through their Positive Parenting Programme. The objective of the programme is to empower parents to nurture their children positively to enable them to be well-rounded future citizens. The funding received from the Community Rewards Programme assists the organisation with rolling out the training as well as allows them to provide participating families with food parcels.

“Thank you so much for the greatest news ever. We thank you for making Inkulisa HRU a real beacon of hope to the poorest of the poor in this community.

The impact of this funding will be felt by our dearest legal guardians through parenting skills training and psychosocial support.

Secondly, we have aftercare classes for the orphans and vulnerable children who struggle to meet their potential with their school work due to their guardians' inexperience in assisting them with their homework, so part of the funding will be used to provide homework support and the rest will be used to give the 53 learners snacks or a light lunch, for the next six months.

We'll forever be grateful and appreciate your generous gesture,” says Ms Madisa Paulus, Director: Inkulisa Holistic Resource Unit
