Corporate Social Responsibility

Expanding our Circles of Influence through Education.

The academic year is in full swing on campuses across the country, with students making strides to realise their right to education and further study. Education has the ability to unlock access to other human rights, ultimately empowering individuals to contribute and participate meaningfully in a free society.

Understanding the role that education plays as the cornerstone of advancing human rights and democracy, LegalWise is proud to welcome three new Bursary Holders to the LegalWise Member Bursary Programme for the 2024 academic year.

Given our mission to facilitate accessible and timely access to justice, enabling individuals to uphold and protect their legal rights, LegalWise is dedicated to fostering opportunities for students to pursue higher education. With our bursaries being linked to work-back agreements, we are able to ensure job opportunities for our Bursary Holders upon graduation providing our graduates valuable work experience and a stepping stone towards realising their career goals.

As future Brand Ambassadors, our Bursary Holders become integral members of our community and are pivotal to our future endeavors.

“My journey with LegalWise is one that I will forever be grateful for. From being a Bursary Holder to coming back as an employee, the Bursary Programme not only assisted me financially but gave me access to all the resources available at LegalWise which as a student assisted greatly. The Bursary Programme offered emotional support through their facilitation of regular calls to find out about one's well-being and finding out what the Company can do to assist to make our lives easier in terms of our studies. The vacation work allowed one to gain exposure in dealing with legal issues practically which provided a foot in the door and preparation when it came to finding articles. The transition into the work sphere was not that difficult because I had already gained some experience from vacation work and the workplace service obligation after graduating from university.

After serving my articles I returned to LegalWise and I have enjoyed every moment of my return. I believe I am where I am because of the great work done by LegalWise and the people who are part of the Company,” Aluthotho Tyolani, Legal Counsellor: Case Management.”

We are confident that the benefit gained from the holistic design of the LegalWise Bursary Programme further enables our Bursary Holders to give of their best to their studies and work towards attaining their dreams.

Risuna Baloyi is a second year LLB student from the University of Pretoria. Asked why she values receiving a bursary from LegalWise, Risuna said “LegalWise doesn't just offer financial assistance, it offers mentorship, experience in the workplace as well as job security which I think are pivotal to young, law students determined to make their way in the legal field. I am very excited to grow with a Company that I share the same values with”.

Liyema Ngwentle from the University of Witwatersrand is in third year, studying towards a BA Law degree. “This bursary means that I can continue with my studies and be able to reach my career goals. In as much as law is a noble profession, the aim and mandate for legal practitioners is to ensure that the rule of law is upheld to create a civilized society. That is why I chose to study this degree.”

Sinqobile Zungu joins the Programme in 2024 in her third year of study at the University of KwaZulu Natal towards an LLB degree. “Receiving the bursary will alleviate the financial burden on myself and my parents and enable me to focus entirely on my studies. Furthermore, the mentorship assistance and practical experiences the LegalWise bursary offers would enable me to grow continuously, therefore contributing meaningfully to society.”
