Providing as many South Africans as possible with the opportunity to become active citizens with the power to enforce and defend their rights, is at the core of what LegalWise stands for. Through the provision of access to justice, LegalWise continuously contributes to the social and economic transformation of South Africa.

We believe in the power of people and their ability to positively influence their own transformation. This belief underpins our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) strategy. When engaging with our communities, we aim to establish shared-value partnerships that ensure that community partners are at the centre. All LegalWise CSI activities are built on a strengths-based approach to development, which focuses on the strengths and capabilities inherent within communities, rather than on needs and deficiencies. It empowers people to contribute meaningfully to their own development.

Our Employee Community Service Programme is built on the same foundation – we believe our employees have gifts, skills and talents which can be mobilised to transform our communities. This unique approach allows our employees to identify their own volunteering activities within the communities in which they operate, which in turn has resulted in high levels of participation.

At the Beyond Painting Classrooms Conference held in September 2017, the value of this approach was recognised when the LegalWise Employee Community Service Programme received an industry award. The conference, sponsored by FirstRand and supported by Charities Aid Foundation Southern Africa, celebrates employee volunteering and provides opportunities to share best practice in the field. LegalWise received the ‘Creating Real Value’ Award which recognises employee volunteering programs and initiatives that have shown real and measurable value for the business, partner organisations and communities.

LegalWise was privileged to share this unique approach to employee volunteering at the International ABCD Imbizo held in Port Elizabeth in February 2018. The Imbizo saw over 180 participants from 23 countries gathering to share how strengths-based approaches have successfully been utilised to strengthen communities around the world.

LegalWise is proud of the contribution our employees have made to the success of our Employee Community Service Programme and we believe that a strengths-based approach to employee volunteering has the potential to provide sustainable transformation in our Country.
