Dear Member,

We applaud the resilience and steadfast resolve of all South Africans. With load shedding, increasing interest rates, food and fuel price hikes experienced in the past few months it has become even more important to provide solutions that enable Members to access their LegalWise Benefits. We are pleased to announce that our new Self-Service Contract Creator is now available online and ready for use from the comfort of your home. As Patrick James Riley said, “Excellence is the gradual result of always  striving to do better”. Read all about how to create a ready to use contract online. Available on our website www.legalwise.co.za.

Happy Women's Day. We shall forever be grateful to the 20 000 women who in 1956 matched to the Union Building in Pretoria to protest against a legislation aimed at tightening the apartheid's Government control over the movement of black women in urban areas.

In this edition of the newsletter, we discuss online abuse against women, explain what doxing is and other types of cyberbullying. Read more.

We touch on what the law says on marrying out of community of property and what it could mean in the event that you get divorced. Read more about a landmark High Court case that made a ruling on living together, inheritance and the rights of the surviving partner when it comes to a deceased spouse.

In 2021 LegalWise embarked on a journey to drive and encourage transformation by offering a #BeyondMentorship programme. This programme has now seen its first group, class of 2021, gather and chat about the past year, their journey, learnings and important take-outs. You can view the video of the red table discussion on www.legalwise.co.za.

We would like to remind you of the Tax Advice and Assistance Benefit available to main Members. The Tax season is here and you are encouraged to make use of this benefit. Furthermore, the changing world of work has provided many companies with the opportunity to allow employees to work from home where possible. For employees in this position, it is now possible to claim expenses from SARS. Read more about some of the requirements you would need to meet to enable you to claim.

Remember that you can make an appointment for consultations with a Legal Counsellor from anywhere. On Zoom (086 142 7777) or add us as a contact on WhatsApp (071 640 0337).
